Going Green in the Caribbean
Fred Stoss recently attended the Green Aruba III Conference at the invitation of the Government of Aruba. His invitation came at the request of Mrs. Astrid Britten, Director of the National Library of Aruba and was facilitated through the conference co-sponsors, the Ministry of Justice and Education, the Ministry of Finance, Communication, Utilities, and Energy, Elmar N.V., W.E.B. Aruba N.V. and Utilities Aruba N.V. The theme of this year’s conference was “Smart and Sustainable.” The program dealt with Aruba’s dedicated efforts to present their vision for a future economy built on alternative energy strategies on the island nation. The goal is to end Aruba’s dependence on an oil-based economy by becoming the world’s first sustainable country by 2020. > Read more
TNO will officially launch its 'Smart Community Aruba' project in Kibaima
On October 2, 2012, one day prior to the Green Aruba Conference III, TNO together with others will start the construction of the 'Smart Community' project on Aruba. This will take place in the neighborhood of Kibaima. The sustainable project will consist of 20 houses that have been designed and will be constructed together with local stakeholders, companies and the Government of Aruba. The local partners have knowledge on the supply of sustainable energy for the terrain. > Read more
Minister de Meza "The Aruba "Green" way growing big interest around the world"
ORANJESTAD – On October 3, 4, & 5, the Green Aruba Conference III will take place. An event of this magnitude completely dedicated to alternative energy shows how Aruba has accelerated it's 'Green" pace progressively. The theme of this year is 'smart and sustainable', in which the topic of 'green energy for households' is high on the green agenda. In the month of June of this year 2012, Prime Minister of Aruba Mike Eman signed an agreement with Sir Richard Branson, founder of the Carbon War Room (CWR) and The New America Foundation (NAF) to convert Aruba to become the first Green economy in the world by 2020. This is clearly a big challenge and very ambitious, but not impossible. Government of Aruba and Carbon War Room bid to flip Caribbean Island off Fossil Fuels
The Government of Aruba and the Carbon War Room (CWR), the global entrepreneur initiative founded by Sir Richard Branson and a group of entrepreneurs, announced a partnership to transition the island to 100% renewable energy today during the UN’s Rio+20 talks. The partnership would make Aruba the world’s first sustainable energy economy, with the Carbon War Room and New America Foundation working to both devise and implement an integrated strategy for the economy-wide transition – a world first, if successful. > Read more

Cramer was the Minister of Housing, Spatial Planning and Environment from 2007 to 2010 for the Balkenende IV Cabinet. More windmills, less fossil fuel for Aruba
For too long, Aruba has been dependent on fossil fuels for the production of electricity and potable water. During the first Green Aruba conference, in 2010, the government announced its commitment to double the island's windmill park. Currently, the windmill park contributes with about 20% of the island's total electricity production. > Read more

The Royal Family will be on Aruba in October. Today the Government of Aruba announced in a press release that HRH the Prince of Orange has accepted the organizers' request. He is the keynote speaker of Green Aruba II. HRH the Prince of Orange has for many years been concentrating his efforts in water management, a Dutch area of expertise, and he has collaborated with among others UN actions and committees on the topic.> Read more
Greenchoice forze team breaks world speed record on Aruba with hydrogen-fueled vehicle.
The team of the Technical University of Delft, The Netherlands, succeeded in their first attempt on breaking the world speed record during their visit in Aruba. This historic moment took place on Palo Marga international drag race strip in San Nicolas. The Aruban driver managed to break the record which was formerly held by Belgium with a time of 9.77 seconds on 1/8 mile. > Read more
